In as little as 5 hours after fixing your lash extensions, you can begin your exercise routine although we have discovered from experience that leaving the lash extensions on for at least 36 hours gives much better results.


Why Do I Have To Wait In The First Place?

Inasmuch as you're eager to jump right back into the mix, you risk ruining the purpose of fixing lash extensions if you're unable to "exercise" a little patience!

The reason why we advise you to wait a bit before your next workout session is simple. The glue your lash artist fixes your lash extensions with uses that waiting period to properly bond with your natural eyelashes. And the process through which this happens is known as "curing".


What Happens During Curing?

The glue used in fixing your lash extensions needs to be strong enough to bond with your natural eyelashes. For this to happen, it has to absorb sufficient moisture from the air around it to "set" properly. If the glue is exposed to plenty of moisture, and absorbs it too fast, it shortens the amount of time needed for it to set. This may sound like a good idea at first. However, in the long run, the bonds between your lash extensions and lashes weaken because the glue didn't have enough time to cure properly.


This is why it's important to allow enough time for your lash extensions to cure properly without trying to speed up the process.

  1. Avoid Wearing Sunscreen Before Your Workout Session

Working out in the open is fun. That sweet feeling you get when a cool breeze blows across your skin as you work out a sweat is almost indescribable! However, if you want to exercise outdoors, you should avoid wearing too much sunscreen. When your workout session gets intense, and your sunscreen melts, it can run down into your lashes. The oils contained in the melted sunscreen can clump up your lashes and weaken your lash extensions.


2. Try As Much As Possible Not To Rub Your Eyes

It's normal for you to sweat while working out. And the face is one area that experiences a lot of sweating. So it's expected that when you sweat, you'd want to wipe it off and continue your workout. However, if you're wearing lash extensions, it may not be a good idea to continuously rub off the sweat using towels. This is because vigorously wiping your face off when sweating can disturb your lash extensions and cause them to fall off prematurely. Try working out in an air-conditioned environment to reduce the amount of sweat you'd produce.

3. Do Mild Exercises

One of the best things you can do for yourself if you're wearing lash extensions and you want to workout is to avoid intense exercises as much as possible. High intensity exercises trigger profuse sweating. And the more you sweat, the more salt your body evaporates to the surface of your skin. When this salt gets in contact with your lashes (from sweat running down your forehead), it can weaken the bonds of your lash extensions, and cause them to fall off that much quickly. If you must exercise while wearing lash extensions, try as much as you can to workout lightly.


4. Reduce How Often You Take Hot Showers

Taking a hot shower after a hard workout session at the gym is definitely therapeutic. But as much as you love the feeling of the hot jets of water massaging sore muscles, when it comes to your lash extensions, excessive heat is bad news!

When hot water comes in contact with your face, there's every possibility of the glue used to fix your lash extensions melting because of the high temperature. If you must have a hot bath, you can try reducing the water temperature, or better still, wash your face off at the bathroom sink with tepid water before stepping into the shower.


5. Always Clean Up

Last but not the least, always endeavor to properly clean your lash extensions with recommended lash-safe cleansers and shampoo after every workout session. If you wait too long to do this after your workout, you would be increasing the damage from accumulated salt and oil buildup on your lash extensions. When you're done cleaning, you can use a mascara wand (snag-free) to brush up and untangle your lash extensions.
